Fandom is redesigning the navigation system! Let us re-introduce you to the horizontal navigation bar. Other content panels will also join in this position switch. Where the horizontal bar is new, the left-side global navigation also received a makeover! On December 11th, this change will go live to all users everywhere with the exception of those living in the United States of America. On December 12th, these users will receive the new navigation with content panels as well.

Universe Pages build upon the foundation of FanCentral, transforming them into IP-centric hubs that provide a comprehensive overview of everything the respective universe has to offer.

Fandom is upgrading to MediaWiki 1.43! With this update, it allows Fandom to leverage the latest advancements in MediaWiki technology to further enhance performance, security, functionality, and user experience for its massive community of editors and readers.

After a whole year of revamping Interactive Maps, Fandom is now improving the performance of Maps, changing the internal engine to use the canvas system, and enhancing the rendering of markers.

Fandom is 20 years old! That’s right, Fandom – formerly Wikia, formerly Wikicities – was founded on October 18, 2004! This summer, on July 25th we kicked off our anniversary celebration with our annual, highly-anticipated Fandom Party in San Diego! Check it out! Also stay tuned on Community Central to see another celebration in honor of the anniversary!

Logged in editors will be required to confirm their email addresses before they can edit or comment on wikis where anonymous editing is disabled. Fandom will also be disabling anonymous editing on wikis that have had inactive admins or moderators for at least seven days (while retaining the option for admins to turn anon editing back on when they return from inactivity). Thanks to feedback presented by community members, we arrived at these changes announced as an alternative, with no impact on anonymous editing.

On Fandom, users can create wikis on many topics, including ones with mature themes like violence, sexuality, and profanity, as explained in our Community Creation Policy, sometimes however, certain words or phrases, aren't allowed on the platform according to our Terms of Use. This new policy helps clarify Fandom’s position on certain terms and descriptions that we do not permit on Fandom.

Hello all! Miller here, the Community Manager for this wiki! I hope everyone is doing well! For those of you that may not know, it was recently announced in the last Tech Blog of May 17th, that interacting on wikis aimed at children will be restricted to emailconfirmed accounts as an extra safety measure for our younger users. This wiki is one of them included. Occurring soon sometime next week, in a phased release, editing and communicating on the wiki will no longer be possible for accounts that don't have a confirmed email address. There will be notices alerting users as to why they can’t take certain actions anymore and how to remedy that. You can confirm your email via Special:Preferences. While there may be a reduction of active editors within the community, this is a way to further protect young audiences. If you have any further questions, comments and or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to me!

Hi there! I'm Miller, an admin for this wiki who's now also a Community Manager for Entertainment on behalf of Fandom. You may have seen me over the years within this community. After a long testing period, the Thanks extension is available to all communities! Not familiar with this extension? Thanks is a MediaWiki extension that allows editors to easily thank others for specific edits on wiki pages.

After months of testing, reported post notifications are available to wikis that have one social feature enabled. Reporting a post in Discussions, Message Walls, or Article Comments will trigger an on-site notification for all the thread moderators and admins to view.

A Discord Roundtable was recently hosted by Fandom Staff with Fandom Stars to further dive into Fandom's current policy, ad strategy, communication, and forking. The event wasn't just to address immediate issues and concerns but further helped to shape a better communication line with the entire Fandom community.

You may have heard of a feature called Quick Answers that rolled out in mid-August after testing occurred. One of the biggest feedback from the community was that the ability for the community to edit the content in Quick Answers. Fandom is upgrading to MediaWiki 1.39 this year! If you're unfamiliar with MediaWiki, it's a software which runs all of the wiki components on Fandom communities. Design wise, all wikis should keep the same look as they've had before. Fandom will begin to migrate wikis this month in March! During the migration to 1.39, wikis will be set in read-only mode. It shouldn't take more than thirty minutes however.

Earlier this summer, Fandom released Admin+, which is Fandom’s admin certification program! This is meant to help admins create healthy communities so everyone can celebrate their favorite fandoms. Admins who complete and pass all three courses in the program will receive an “Ultra” A+ badge, which can be showcased on professional development sites and social networks. If a wiki has all the admins complete and pass the program, you’re wiki will then be eligible to earn the A+ Wiki status!

FanCentral [Beta] is a new destination for fans to learn and explore! If you’re a logged-in user, you have access to follow the fandoms you have an interest in and have that content from that respective wiki available at your fingertips! If you’re a logged-out user, you’ll get recommendations based on wikis you visit, as well as topics that are similar to the ones about the wiki you’ve visited. Currently, this stage of functionality for FanCentral, which is set to evolve over the coming months, is for communities that are currently available in the Fandom App.

I'm happy to announce that mobile theming has arrived for wiki communities to opt-in to!

Meaning

You may be asking yourself, what does this mean? This means that the styling and colors that's in use in Theme Designer will not only be applied to desktop, but also on mobile! That includes:

• Community background color

• Sticky nav background color

• Community header color

• Accent color

• Link color

• Article background color

• Background image (when selected)

• Heading font

How Does It Work? (Learn why color contrast is essential here)

A prompt to check Special:ThemeDesigner for wiki contrast issues will be received by admins of the community. If there are no longer any contrast issues, admins are able to enable mobile theming on the community. If these issues aren't fixed, theming changes won't be possible.

• If you're an admin, head over to Special:ThemeDesigner.

To check who your Wiki Representative is, go to Special:Community, which is accessible through the explore menu. Hey all! I went on vacation for a few weeks (as you may have noticed by the wonderful Spongebob456 filling in for me to alert you all about Fandom's Pride initiatives), and it seems like Fandom exploded with new updates and general announcements during that time.

This is going to be a long post, so please bear with me 😅 Per usual, for the full extent of the details, I suggest reading the blogs, but I'm going to try and give you the tl;dr summary of them all (in the order they were published ... so most recent blogs are at the bottom):

• Celebrate Pride Month with Fandom (click for blog post)

Although time moves quickly and we're already nearing the end of June, it is still Pride Month and Fandom still has events planned! As such, a small reminder to check out the blog and to attend the two upcoming roundtables:

- Roundtable about LGBTQIA+ Icons and Activists on TODAY, Wednesday June 22 - 9AM PST / 12PM EST / 6PM CET (check your own timezone here) (Discord link). If you have a local icon or a personal hero, please share them with the rest of us so we may all learn and be inspired to do better!

As a small side project, Fandom is committed to documenting the wikis who have made alterations to their design in some way to showcase their support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Fandom's in-person connect event held in LA came to an end, and it was fantastic! Apart from the friendships that were forged, several features and upcoming initiatives were announced. "Read and agreed" must be among the biggest lies on the internet. While we definitely recommend that you read and remember Fandom's Terms of Use, a simpler version of the user conduct section was updated to help everyone understand what's required of you. These guidelines don't list all the do's and don't's for Fandom, but they give a good starting point and cover some of the most important things for everyone to know. Read them here.

Apart from this, it's also always good to make sure your wiki’s rules and guidelines are up-to-date, too. If you have doubts on whether or not this is the case, don't hesitate to reach out to me, so we can review it all together!

Probably one of the most requested user improvements out there now that mobile is more and more common. So what's on the roadmap (without there being a concrete ETA):

Mobile Editing Fixes

- Tackling quality of life issues

- Some improvements including adding a mobile preview and making moderation easier with things like better utility for mobile page history and making it easier to undo/revert changes

Mobile Theme Designer

- Create theme designer functionality for mobile, which includes supporting light and dark themes and an easy-to-use interface that gives customization options to admins.

Ooh, this is my personal favorite to bring to your attention, as I am 100% biased here. I had the pleasure of meeting Breanna at Connect, and she quickly earned my respect and stole my heart by being this amazing person who will without a doubt do fantastic things for the platform. While she's a gaming SCM and you all are from a different vertical, Freezie is an icon and definitely someone you'd want to get to know and talk to, so don't hesitate to hop over to Central to her intro blog to say hi!

• New Discussions Moderation Tools, Including Discussions AbuseFilter, Are Coming This Year (click for blog post)

It's become hard to ask communities for feedback about Discussions (and Message Walls and Comments) without receiving a request for moderation tools and functionality, so I'm ecstatic to say that YES, ABUSE FILTER FOR DISCUSSIONS IS COMING!

Other things being looked at of which the details still need to be worked out are:

- Making it easier for admins and moderators to access moderation tools

- Quickly remove problematic images without having to edit posts manually

- Creating an overall smoother moderation experience for category and tag changes

- Adding support for post/reply edit history

• Introducing Admin Plus! (click for blog post)

The Admin+ program is Fandom's answer to the question "what makes a good admin?" and "how to showcase those skills on your resume in a professional setting?" Still being build so not accessible yet, this free admin certification program is made up of three online courses for eligible admins to take: Technical Foundations, Content Development, and Community Building. After successful completion, a badge will be awarded, which you can showcase on social media, resumes, or wherever you would like. Stay tuned for updates!

• Fandom Stars, Fandom's New(ish) Creator Recognition Program (click for blog post)

Last but not least, Fandom Stars is BACK! Fandom Stars is the ultimate program designed to recognize and amplify Fandom’s most prolific creators, primarily editors, who go the extra mile to help others and create new and fresh content and fan experiences, so they may serve as ambassadors of the Fandom community and are able to experience one-of-a-kind opportunities only found on Fandom (not mandatory to attend if you're uncomfortable with in-person events). Becoming a Fandom Star requires participation though and taking a brief moment to complete a self-nomination form. Read more about it on its own landing page!

In June, Fandom is celebrating Pride Month! Fandom is excited to celebrate Pride and the accomplishments of creators in the LGBTQIA+ community. Our theme for Pride this year is Love Will Keep Us Together - and it would be great if all if you could join in the celebrations!

We want to raise awareness and celebrate through a variety of events which you can find out more about in this blog.

We are spotlighting content in upcoming events, including roundtables and hosting a tournament bracket on Drag Race Wiki! The Movies/TV roundtable has already happened, but below are some other great upcoming ones! Roundtables are a great opportunity for users to discuss their favourite franchises. They are easy to join, you just need to be in Fandom's Discord server and start chatting!
