"A Royal Welcome" is the twelfth episode from the fifth season and the one-hundredth overall episode of Barney & Friends.

Plot[]

To prepare for Old King Cole's visit, Barney and the children visit Booker T. Bookworm at the school library and they learn about the different components of castles. Then, they transform the treehouse into their own castle. Barney, Scooter, Miss Etta, and the children all dress up in royal attire and the kids accent their costumes with "Barney Bag" crowns. Upon Old King Cole's arrival, he kicks up his heels at the sight of the preparations and treats everyone to a royal celebration.

Adaptations[]

Baniwa Chingudeul[]

  • The reason that the Barney doll goes missing is completely different. Instead of it accidentally falling into Scooter McNutty's house, Te-Te secretly takes the doll and plays with it in the treehouse, before the children catch her. The doll comes to life as she runs off.
  • There are multiple differences. for one, the library segment was replaced by The Adventure Screen segment.
  • Because the culture is different in Asian countries, A "King from a Storybook" appears instead of Old King Cole. Along with that, all American history is replaced with the history of Gyeongbokgung.

Trivia[]

  • This episode marked:
    • The one-hundredth episode of Barney & Friends.
    • Another time where something happens to the Barney doll before coming to life. It was when Scooter McNutty threw Barney out of his hole. (It's also the only time Scooter appears before Barney comes to life, apparently fully aware of his existence as a stuffed doll.)
    • The only time Hannah wears jeans.
  • After not being sung for five years, since "I Can Do That!", the song, "Rig a Jig, Jig" returns in this episode.
  • The capes which the children wore in this episode will later be used and re-worn in "A Package Of Friendship" and "Stick With Imagination!".
  • Chip wore the same shirt that he previously wore in "Colors All Around".
