The Animal Fair is a traditional folk song and children's song. As early as 1898, it is attested as being sung by American sailors. This song only appeared in "The Dentist Makes Me Smile" and Barney's Super Singing Circus.
Lyrics[]
- I went to the animal fair,
- The birds and the beasts were there;
- The big baboon in the light of the moon
- Was combing his auburn hair.
- You should have seen the monk,
- He sat on the elephant's trunk,
- The elephant sneezed
- And fell on his knees,
- And what became of the monk?
- Said a flea to a fly in a flue, said the flea,
- "Oh, what shall we do?"
- Said the flea, "Let us fly!"
- Said the fly "Let us flee!"
- So they flew through a flaw in the flue.
