"Be A Friend" is the sixteenth episode from the first season of Barney & Friends.

Plot

Barney finds Tosha, a new girl at school, lonely and without friends. He introduces her to Michael, Derek and Kathy. Together, they learn why doing things with friends is much more fun. Through songs, stories and activities Barney's friends learn about pen pals, getting along and sharing. A missing Teddy Bear has everyone working together as friends.

Hachaverim Shel Barney

• Despite appearing in the two previous episodes "It's Fun to Share" and "Happy Birthday", the character "Gal" is introduced as the new kid in school in this version.
• When Barney comes to life, the bench that he and Gal were sitting on disappears.
• "BINGO" and the "Three Bears Rap" are not sung. "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is not sung either, but it is heard as an underscore. "Mr. Knickerbocker" is also used as underscore during the scene of the kids making murals of themselves.

Trivia

• This episode marked:
  • The first appearance of Tosha.
  • Before making its actual introduction in "Honk! Honk! A Goose On The Loose!", the song "The Library" is heard as an underscore in this episode. 
  • The music for the Barney Says segment removes the flute in this episode. This later happens again in "Practice Makes Music", "A Splash Party, Please", "Carnival Of Numbers", "I Can Do That!" and "At Home With Animals".
• Min appears in the beginning of this episode. She is seen pushing a handicapped child in a wheelchair.
  • Min would later appear officially for the first time with Tosha in A Camping We Will Go!.
• The second-to-last scene in the opening theme where all cast members hug Barney was reshot to accommodate Tosha's entrance into the show. This version of the theme song would later be used in episodes 20 and 22-30 of the first season, as well as Barney's Magical Musical Adventure.
• Tosha would reference making new friends in Sing And Dance With Barney.
• This group (Derek, Michael, Kathy and Tosha) also appeared in "Doctor Barney Is Here!".
• Kathy and Tosha are in the same class.
