Barney & The Backyard Gang[]

For Barney & The Backyard Gang, the crew at ColorDynamics, the place where the series was filmed, contracted Singleton to contact the musicians. For the first three videos of Barney & The Backyard Gang, Singleton's children's choir did stunt vocals for the on-camera kids. After the first three videos, the original music director Stephen Bates Baltes, moved back to Los Angeles, California. A call was put out for a new music director for Barney & The Backyard Gang and Singleton became the music director for the rest of the series.

Barney & Friends[]

After Barney & the Backyard Gang ended, the video series was spun into a television series titled Barney & Friends in which Singleton was brought on board. During the first season, Singleton worked on six different episodes at the same time in different phases (such as script development, pre-production and post-production).

After season three of Barney & Friends, he was replaced by Joseph Phillips who took over as music director for the series, but Singleton returned to work on the score for several Barney Home Videos and did the music for the Barney Home Video previews from 1997-2000 and was a songwriter for Barney & Friends until 2002.

Barney[]

When Singleton was nominated for a Grammy in honor of the album Barney's Favorites, Volume 1, Singleton was interviewed by a local radio station. Callers of the station complained about the music Singleton produced for Barney & Friends and its predecessor Barney & The Backyard Gang, which eventually lead to death threats of Singleton's life. Singleton had unlisted his phone number out of fear due to the many threats he would receive via phone calls and emails.

Trivia[]

  • "S'Mores" is one of Singleton's favorite songs he wrote.
  • Singleton appeared in the documentary I Love You, You Hate Me.
  • According to Singleton (via Barney History Fans), around 1994, Jenna and Barbara Bush, daughters of former George W. Bush, auditioned to be in the Bob Singleton Kids Chorus for Barney & Friends. The entire Bush family was under Secret Service due to George H. W. Bush being the 41st president. Secret Service arrived to the audition of Jenna and Barbara, however they didn't make the cut to be in Singleton's chorus to which Singleton and Larry Haron, Singleton's assistant, were looking for.
  • In 1994, Singleton co-wrote a song titled "When You Kiss Me, It Doesn't Make Me Sick" alongside Stephen White, which was meant for the film Barney's Great Adventure but was eventually scrapped.
