Clarence is Mother Goose's pet goose. In "Honk! Honk! A Goose on the Loose!", He was performed by Jess Nelson as a puppet. Clarence first started out as a puppet with a long neck, purple eyelids with eyelashes, blue eyes, and an orange beak.
In Barney's Big Surprise, he was redesigned as an oversized walkaround and resembled a realistic goose with a pointier reddish beak, eyelashes, a green halter with a "bit" mouthpiece, and a tartan vest. In the first two tours, Clarence remained onstage until the show's finale.
