Deck the Halls is a traditional Christmas carol. The melody is Welsh, dating back to the sixteenth century, and belongs to a winter carol, "Nos Galan", while the English lyrics, written by the Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant, date to 1862. It was first sung in Waiting for Santa.
Lyrics[]
- Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- 'Tis the season to be jolly,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- Don we now our gay apparel,
- Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!
- Troll the ancient Yuletide carol,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- See the blazing Yule before us,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- Strike the harp and join the chorus,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- Follow me in merry measure,
- Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!
- While I tell of Yuletide treasure,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- 'Tis the season to be jolly,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
- Don we now our gay apparel,
- Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!
- Troll the ancient Yuletide carol,
- Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
