Demetria Devonne "Demi" Lovato (born August 20, 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico) is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Lovato began her acting career on the children's television series Barney & Friends, portraying Angela in seasons seven and eight. Her role as Angela was one of her first appearances on television. Lovato is one of the most well-known actresses to have appeared on the show.

Following her role in Barney & Friends, Lovato is known in other television series such as Sonny with a Chance and films such as Camp Rock, its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, and Princess Protection Program. In addition to her acting career, Lovato has released several songs and albums.

In May 2021, Lovato began to identify as non-binary. She has since reclaimed her use of she/her pronouns, and uses them alongside they/them.

Barney & Friends

At a young age, Lovato and her family tried very hard to get an agent to represent her. Through various auditions and disappointed phone calls, Lovato eventually received a call to be on Barney & Friends. Lovato, who was in fifth grade at the time, debuted in the role of Angela[1] in 2002.

Before and while doing Barney & Friends, she was suicidal but admits that Barney saved her.[2] The final appearance of Lovato as Angela was released in 2004.

While appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in 2008, Lovato and host Jimmy Fallon did a metal version of "I Love You".[3] While backstage at Capital's Summertime Ball in 2018, Lovato sang "I Love You" while playing a game with Roman Kemp.[4]

While Lovato looks back on Barney & Friends fondly, Lovato wishes she hadn’t become a child actress at that young age.[5]

Personal Life

Barney & Friends

Lovato admitted that her classmates would tease and make fun of her for acting on Barney & Friends, due to it being aimed at preschoolers.[6]
