- This is Lauren King's favorite Barney song.
- In the last line of the chorus, each character uses their own pose, which is unique to them and worked into the choreography of the song, as in the above picture. These poses generally do not change over time, with a few exceptions.
- When this song was first sung in Barney in Concert, the lyrics were "because you're special" in the first verse, but in season one of Barney & Friends and "A Very Special Delivery!", and the 1996 re-release of Barney in Concert, they were sung as "oh you are special" in the first and second verse.
- Also in Barney in Concert, the third line of the second verse was sung as “This world is better…”
- The "Everyone?" line was first used in Everyone Is Special the first time it was sung. It was put to permanent use starting with "Picture This!"
- The former episode has the song done twice, with the first of the renditions cutting the song in half, plus the coda. The reprise also happens in A Very Special Delivery!. The halved song also happens in Barney's Musical Castle.
- Until Season 2, the melody to begin each verse was slightly different.
- In Happy Birthday, Barney!, Practice Makes Music and Picture This!, the kids break the fourth wall during the second verse, plus the last line of the second chorus except for the third episode, and the coda as well in the second episode.
- This song is normally done in the key of E. In A Very Special Delivery!, the reprise of the song is pitched up to the key of G for the verse, then drops to D-flat for the chorus and coda. In Sing & Dance With Barney, the song is pitched up to F.
- In the former episode, a unique arrangement was done in lullaby-style. The chorus is halved further, only being sung once with the melody that ends it. The “Everyone?” line is also absent.
- In the latter episode, the last line of the second verse is changed to “You should know that I love you.” This also happens in All Aboard!.
- In Barney Live! in New York City, this song replaced I Love You as the final song due to the 1994 lawsuit and the chorus part was sung three times before the coda part.
- The three choruses were also done in You Are Special. This episode and Everyone Is Special pause the lyrics midway to break down everyone’s specialities.
- Until Season 3, the second line of the second verse was “You’re the only one of you.”
- Season eight is the only season of Barney & Friends where this song is not performed. However, it was used as an underscore in some episodes.
