20th Century Fox Home Entertainment (commonly referred to as 20th Home Video, 20th Home Entertainment, 20th Century-Fox Video, Fox Video, and or 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment) was the home video distribution arm of the American film production studio 20th Century Fox. On March 20, 2019, The Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox and as a result absorbed 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The distribution arm is currently named as 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment serving as a label of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment that releases films produced by 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and 20th Century Animation, and television series by 20th Television, and 20th Television Animation in home entertainment formats.
In February 2006, it was announced that the home video division inked a multimillion dollar deal with the children's entertainment company HIT Entertainment. The deal was announced to be a multi-year agreement for the exclusive marketing, sales and distribution rights to Hit’s extensive portfolio, which included the Barney franchise. In the same announcement, it was announced that Fox would begin distributing HIT’s full slate of home entertainment releases in August 2006.[1]
Due to the deal, HIT’s properties saw a significant distribution boost to more than 70,000 retail storefronts across North America.[2] Due to global market of DVDs declining, working with Fox also significantly reduced HIT's cost base and improved margins.[3]
In early 2008, Bruce Steinberg, the CEO of HIT at the time, moved the DVD sales contract from Fox to Lionsgate Home Entertainment.[3]
