Once Upon A Time is a 1996 direct-to-video Barney Home Video that was released on November 5, 1996.
Plot[]
Shawn is trying to convince his friends of the magic words: 'once upon a time'. While playing in the playground, by saying the magic words, it begins to rain. However, Barney and the kids quickly realize that Carlos is using a water hose.
Going inside the classroom, Barney's friends are still unconvinced of the magic words. Stella the Storyteller visits; and with some help from Barney, they help teach the kids that the magical effect of 'once upon a time' is the ability to tell wondrous, fantastical stories. Stella tries to unplug her suitcase; when all of a sudden, the case begins unpacking all of her props. Seeing this as an opportunity to show the kids the magic of storytelling, Barney and Stella come up with ways for the group to act out three classic fairy tales: Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Baby Bop joins the group to help tell the latter two fairy tales.
After telling the three stories, Barney and the kids help Stella pack up her suitcase. The kids leave the school, learning the fun, imaginative process of storytelling.

Trivia[]
- This video marked:
- One of a couple times in which the kids do not leave when Barney turns back into a doll.
- The final appearance of the second Season 3 Barney costume.
- The first time Steven Feldman directed for the Barney franchise. He would later direct episodes from seasons four and five as well as some home video releases until taking a temporary hiatus before returning to his position during the eleventh season.
- Although Kids for Character was first, this was considered as the first video to have Joseph Phillips as the music director. His name was previously listed during the end credits for Barney's Talent Show, Barney's Fun & Games, and Barney's 1-2-3-4 Seasons alongside Tony Peugh despite Bob Singleton composing the music for those three videos.
- During "Castles So High", Stella's voice can be heard very faintly.
- In this video, the arrangement of "I Love You" is a prototype of the arrangement that would go on to be used between seasons four and six.
- For the UK/Ireland release of this video, the title card only says "Barney" shown up top on the silhouette instead of simply saying "Barney & Friends". This would also occur in Barney's Adventure Bus. The 1998 ActiMates Compatible release restored the original title card.
