"Pies That Surprise" was a song intended to be used in the film Barney's Great Adventure. In the original script of the film, Grandma Greenfield dreamed of winning first prize at the fair's pie-baking contest which caused her to make any kind of pie she could think of, while having Grandpa Greenfield taste them.

While the song was written in 1997, White premiered the song exclusively in Barney History Fans in September 2024.

Lyrics[]

I made my share of apple pies,
Boysenberry too!
But since I've never won first prize,
It's time for something new.
Mixed up flavors, crazy crusts,
This year, it's first place or bust!
I'm throwing out old recipes.
I'll dare to do things differently!
I'm baking up spaghetti peach,
Chocolate kumquat, two of each.
Gooseberry with extra goo,
Dutch apple served in wooden shoes.
Lemon licorice, melon mutton,
Navel orange with a belly button,
Macaroni macaroon,
Who would like to lick the spoon?
These will be pies that surprise!
Baking, boiling, blending, beating,
Peeling, poking, please - no eating!
Stirring, straining, rolling dough,
We have to hurry - go, team, go!
Is the oven timer ticking?
Something in the blender's sticking!
Ketchup, corn, puree of prune,
Who would like to lick the spoon?
These will be pies that surprise!
Huckleberry buckle pie,
Meringue in mounds up to the sky,
Newton's apple - Oops! It fell!
Papaya plum in bright pastel,
Nectarine with periscope,
Passion fruit that "cantaloupe",
The gravy grapefruit's coming soon,
Who would like to lick the spoon?
These will be pies that are sure to win a prize!
The judges won't believe the taste!
They won't believe their eyes!
These will be pies that surprise!
