Barney Wiki

Pop! Goes the Weasel is a popular children's song that was originally written in 1855. In the Barney franchise, it was first sung in Barney in Concert.

Lyrics[]

All around the mulberry bush,
The monkey chased the weasel.
The monkey thought 'twas all in fun.
Pop! Goes the weasel.
A penny for a spool of thread,
A penny for a needle.
That's the way the money goes.
Pop! Goes the weasel.
The painter needs a ladder and brush,
The artist needs an easel;
The dancers need a fiddler's tune.
Pop! Goes the weasel.
I've no time to wait and to sigh,
Or to tell the reason why.
Kiss me quick, I'm off, goodbye!
Pop! Goes the weasel.

All around the cobbler's bench,
The monkey chased the weasel.
The monkey thought 'twas all in fun.
Pop! Goes the weasel.
A penny for a spool of thread,
A penny for a needle.
That's the way the money goes.
Pop! Goes the weasel.
The painter needs a ladder and brush,
The artist needs an easel;
The dancers need a fiddler's tune.
Pop! Goes the weasel.
I've no time to wait and sigh,
Or to tell the reason why.
Kiss me quick, I'm off, goodbye!
Pop! Goes the weasel.

    • Only one round of the tune is done, with the second-to-last line in ritardando.
  • Three of the song’s renditions have Barney coming to life during them:
    • In Red, Blue And Circles Too! and Good Job!, he comes to life at the end of the first repeat of the first stanza and the first two stanzas, respectively.
      • The former episode was the only instance of Barney saying the last line without “Pop!”, since it was done by Tosha.
    • In All Aboard!, he comes to life at the end of the song.
