Steven A. Feldman (born March 8, 1952 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an American director for various children's programs. Feldman has worked on various shows including Sesame Street, the ‘Nick News, Politically Incorrect, The Wubbulous World of Dr. Suess, LazyTown and Barney & Friends.

Jim Rowley, one of the directors of Barney & Friends who was in Dallas, Texas called Feldman, who was in New York City, New York at the time, to see if he was interested in being involved with Barney & Friends. Feldman wasn't excited about it when he was asked. Feldman thought about the words of his brother, which then inspired him to take up the opportunity to see what it entailed. Feldman took a tour of the studio and learned that the crew wanted him to direct a few episodes and home videos. He did home videos first before moving into episodes.[2]

Feldman was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 1999 in the category of "Outstanding Directing in a Children's Series" in honor of his work for Barney & Friends. Feldman submitted the episode "Howdy, Friends!" for the board to review, which allowed him to get the nomination. The board felt that the episode didn't feel like a Barney & Friends episode.[2]

During his time working on Barney & Friends, Feldman contemplated with an idea of moving to Dallas, Texas due to the show being filmed within the area. Feldman was unsure as to what else he could in the area to further justify the move as he needed to make a living while being a freelance director for Barney & Friends.[3]

  • When Feldman first joined Barney & Friends, he tried on the Barney costume.
  • Feldman has tried to reach out to the crew working on the upcoming Barney film to give advice.
  • The same year Feldman was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in honor of Barney & Friends was the same year he got a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Sesame Street.

  • When first coming to the franchise, Feldman vouched for the idea of Barney talking into the camera to the viewers.
  • Feldman didn't like the idea of Barney saying "I Love You" directly into the camera to the viewers given it's a deep emotion. He preferred if Barney said "I like you".[2]
