"The Idea Song" is an original Barney song from Seasons 7-13 of Barney & Friends. The song is sung as a duet, however over the years, the song has been sung by one person and/or by a group of three or five.
Lyrics[]
- I'd like to think of something
- I'd never thought before.
- If it doesn't happen right away,
- I'll think a little more.
- I'll sit a little while
- Imagine what could be.
- And a new idea might come to me.
- I'd like to think of something new,
- Something fun to do.
- Maybe solve a problem
- Or fix a thing or two.
- If I sit a little while I'm sure I'll see.
- A new idea will come to me.

Trivia[]
- When this song is used with The Idea Bench, a friend usually leads the first stanza while the bench is still, then Barney joins in for the second one as he spins the bench counterclockwise.
- In Making a Move!, Let's Go to the Fire House and The Good Egg: Kenya, the bench is spun clockwise instead.
- In Dream Big, only Barney leads the first half of the second stanza, altering the first line with “You can think of something new”.
- In All Aboard!, Barney repeats the last line as a coda.
- This song is usually done in the key of C major. When Riff leads it, it is pitched down to B major.
- In Lights! Camera! Action!: A Movie Adventure, only one sings it. In Let's Go to the Fire House and The Good Egg: Kenya, two or more sing with the lead.
