"The Sword in the Sandbox: A Storybook Adventure" is the third episode from the twelfth season of Barney & Friends.

Plot[]

Daniel is reluctant to jump rope with the bigger kids because of his small size. So, Barney tells Daniel a fairy tale story of "The Sword in the Sandbox" (a take off of "The Sword in the Stone") and shows him how an ordinary chef became the king of the land thanks to the encouragement of his friends.

Production[]

Writing[]

The first draft of "The Sword in the Sandbox: A Storybook Adventure" was completed on July 7, 2007 by Douglas Booth. Initially, rather than desiring cookies as told in the final version of the episode, the script saw the characters desire ice cream. Unlike the final cast of children seen in the episode, the script originally saw the children named Artie, Joey, Elise, Anna and Michael. Mr. Brantley, the Park's ice cream vendor, was also to make an appearance before being cut from the final version of the episode. The song Miss Mary Mack was also meant to appear in the episode.
