SUPER-DEE-DUPER! We're celebrating Disability Pride Month! Disability Pride Month

Disability Pride Month first occurred in July 1990, commemorating the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to protect those with disabilities. It's been celebrated every year since, and in 2015 became a worldwide celebration. To bring the celebration more mainstream, Ann Magill, a writer who has writer cerebral palsy and is part of the community, created the disability pride flag in 2019. It was later updated in 2021 to make it more accessible.

Characters

To celebrate Disability Pride Month on Barney Wiki, we wanted to highlight some stupendous characters from Barney & Friends! Since the beginning, the Barney franchise has always been about inclusion, and that means featuring characters who may be different from one another. Some characters are in a wheelchair, some are deaf, some are blind, and one character was born congenitial amputee, but these differences aren't an issue and they still enjoy having fun with Barney and the others!

Television

To celebrate Disability Pride Month on Barney Wiki, we wanted to recommend some Barney & Friends episodes! Some episodes feature discussions on visual impairments, being born congenitial amputee, wheelchairs, deafness, and special needs. These topics within these Barney & Friends episodes highlight that while some individuals may be different, they're able to do the same things that others can!

Video

When I first joined the Barney fandom, I was incredibly honored to have found a Make-A-Wish moment between Barney, BJ, Baby Bop and a little girl named Elizabeth. It's been re-shared and reposted on different channels within the community over the years, so I'm glad this moment is still alive to view. It's such an incredible moment that's worth putting on this blog post. Check it out!
